Silverstar Car Wash’s newest location is under construction.
The popular car wash chain is remodeling the former Vern Eide Mitsubishi dealership at 1500 S. Minnesota Ave. into a central hub for several offices and a new car wash location, said spokesperson Andrea Vetos.
A building permit was issued for the project on May 11 for $1.43 million. Hegg Construction is the contractor for the project.
“It’s been an exciting time of growth, but we look at the feedback we get from customers seriously,” Vetos said. “They wanted something centrally located closer to downtown, so when the building came up for sale it was a natural fit for where we’re looking to house offices and other things together.”
The Minnesota Avenue location will be the Sioux Falls “central headquarters,” Vetos said. It’ll house a training facility and office space in the western part of the building, a car wash down the center and maintenance teams in the former service garage area.
There are seven Silverstar Car Wash locations open in Sioux Falls with a location under construction at 41st Street and Grange Avenue near Costco and another at 8200 S. Purdue Ave. near 41st Street and Ellis Road. The Minnesota Avenue car wash will be the 10th location in Sioux Falls.
Silverstar purchased the property in the summer of 2020 and planned to have the space operating by the end of the year, but officials put the project on hold after Avera Health requested to use the empty building for COVID-19 testing during the height of the pandemic. About 30,000 people were tested at the facility in that six-month period, Vetos said.
“We had other projects at the time. it seemed like it was more important at the time to help the community than focus on this project,” she said.
Vetos expects the Minnesota Avenue car wash project to be completed by the end of fall 2021.
The other location under construction at 41st Street and Grange Avenue near Costco is expected to open by the end of May, Vetos said.
