Dozens of new businesses expected in 2022 in the Fargo-Moorhead area

Story courtesy of Inforum.com

While 2021 saw over 15 businesses in the Fargo-Moorhead area permanently close their doors , many new establishments are aiming to take their place in 2022.

Customers in the Fargo-Moorhead area will have an abundance of new restaurants to try, though there are plenty of other new businesses to anticipate, including a new entertainment complex in south Fargo, several car washes and new stores.

Silverstar Car Wash

Sioux Falls-based Silverstar Car Wash will bring a trio of new car washes to the area in 2022.

The first, located at 4475 Calico Dr. S. in Fargo, is nearly completed and expected to open in March, the company’s website said . A second will follow in May at 2900 52nd Ave. S. in Fargo, while the third location will open at 2120 Sheyenne St. in West Fargo in July.

The new car washes will only be the first splash for Silverstar in the metro area. Co-owner Bryan Slama told InForum in August that he anticipates bringing several more to the area.

Dakota Commerce Center

Another mega construction project will be joining the Amazon Fulfillment Center in north Fargo.

Weighing in at 633,200-square-feet, the Dakota Commerce Center is set to serve as a warehousing and distribution hub to complement the Amazon facility that’s just a stone’s throw north.

Total costs are $53 million for the complex, which is being built by Hyde Development. In August, the company’s co-founder Paul Hyde projected the first of the facility’s four buildings would open in January, with a second following in the fall. If all goes well, the third and fourth buildings would open in 2023 and 2024.

Timber Creek LIVE entertainment center

South Fargo will be getting a major new entertainment center early in 2022.

The Timber Creek LIVE district will boast two new recreational activities for F-M area residents, Suite Shots and Kingpinz.

Inspired by Topgolf, Suite Shots is a golf entertainment facility that will offer a golf academy, indoor simulators, and banquet space in addition to 60 climate-controlled bays.

Kingpinz, which a recent press release described as “the ultimate reinvention of bowling and family entertainment,” will feature 20 lanes of bowling, two-story laser tag, escape rooms, charitable gaming and 50 arcade games.

Baron’s, a full-service American style bar and restaurant, will also open on the site.

According to its website , Kingpinz is slated to open Tuesday, Jan. 18. Suite Shots is expected to open in the first quarter of the year.

Asian & American Market

The Asian & American Market, currently located at 1015 Main Ave. in Fargo, is expected to move to a new location just a few blocks west.

City permit records indicate plans for the $1.8 million, 19,500-square-foot grocery store will include a parking lot and new loading dock.

In May, owner John Huynh declined to comment on the project, telling InForum that there were elements of the project still to be finalized. While the permit for the store has still not been issued, foundation work at the site is ongoing.

Mas Tequila

Local restaurateur Juan Perez is hoping to open Mas Tequila, located near The Lights in West Fargo, in the coming months.

The bar and restaurant will offer limited food service, though the focal point will be a broad selection of tequila, Perez told InForum in December 2020 .

Perez had hoped to open this past June, though the opening was delayed.

Plaza Azteca

Perez is also working on a second project, bringing another Plaza Azteca location to Fargo.

The second Plaza Azteca will be located at 5081 Charles Way S. in the Timber Creek LIVE development. Costs are estimated at $1.435 million for the 4,434-square-foot restaurant.

Perez hopes to fill a hole for sit-down restaurants in the neighborhood. “There’s no restaurants (on 52nd Avenue South). I think a sit-down restaurant is good for that area,” Perez told InForum Friday, Nov. 5.

The new location will look a lot like the city’s first Plaza Azteca, Perez said, but it’ll be slimmed down and feature a more upscale menu.

Randy’s Diner

Randy’s Diner, a staple along University Drive S. in Fargo, is opening a second diner near The Lights in West Fargo .

Owner Heidi Roggenkamp told InForum in May that she felt Randy’s Diner would fill a gastronomic need in West Fargo. “I think it’s needed. There are a lot of great places to eat in West Fargo,” she said. “A lot of them are bars, so I think having another option where it’s family-friendly and with all the churches over there, there’s not a lot of options on Sunday. Overall, it’s going to be a nice addition.”

She had initially hoped to open in time for New Year’s though the construction has been pushed back.
